My Social Media Footprint

After I searched myself on google, I was shocked to see some old photos from Facebook, truly anything that is uploaded to the internet will always be there. I had a few laughs with my husband looking through the photos. I was extremely surprised; that I even made him google me from his phone and to my surprise the same photos came out.

I also saw that my LinkedIn, Wix page, Pinterest, and Instagram came out. Thankfully all of my accounts are decent and cannot be used against me in any way. I consider myself to be extroverted and very opened, therefore most of my accounts have a decent amount of information about myself. Although my accounts are not private, I consider the information showed is not extremely confidential. I have always been careful on what to upload on the internet; the thought of strangers knowing where I live or what I do on the daily scares me, therefore I am careful on that and what not to post.

After watching the  “ What Does Your Digital Footprints Say About You?” TED talk with Nicola Osborne I learned the importance of the content that one may post online. Content that is posted online can have negative or positive outcomes. Negative impacts of social media on real people unfortunately happen everyday; social media may promote stressful experiences such as public shamming which can eventually cause depression, anxiety, self-harm, and even suicidal thoughts. It is extremely important to carefully think what kind of post or pictures one may want to upload to social media. One must always be professional ; As this information may have implications on future career or employers. Furthermore, it is important to set a decent profile and impression to those who view your social media.

As I read “Is Twitter A Stage”, I came to understand the importance of impressions one leaves on others. One example the article talks about is the similarity a social media participant and a stage actor share. Both a social media participant and a stage actor relay on the audience opinion. As a social media participant one relays on how others react to a post or picture in order to feel approved and /or may influence what one would upload next. As for a stage actor relays on the audience in affirm if they are doing a good job or not.

Social Media footprints have made me come to realization on what to share and what to avoid on uploading to the internet. It is important to take advantage of the many opportunities social media can offer. Although the internet is a great source and tool, it may also be negative and harmful if not used correctly.

Media Production 1: Final

After taking a year of from college, and deciding to change my major to Communication Studies, I did not know what to expect. However, I knew I wanted to improve my communication skills specifically technologically, visually, and interpersonally. After getting some advice, I learned that Media Production 1 was the course that would help me expand and develop strength in these skills.

Media Production 1 has helped me strengthen communication skills through technology. I was able to learn and use programs such as Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, and Garage band; programs that I had no idea on how to use. Also, I had the opportunity to create my own website and build knowledge on how to be successful with it. Though this was time consuming, and sometimes stressful; I learned that practice makes perfect. Technology plays an extremely important role in our life’s, and I’m grateful this course helped me develop more knowledge on it.

Visual communication was another skill I was able to expand through the time in this course. I was amazed on all the knowledge I gained. It is incredible how a story can be messaged by using only visual communication. My strength in this skill grew with my project “A Day in a Life”.  Learning how to create a story using images was incredible. Communicating a desired message through images and videos and arrange them in a n specific order to tell a story was really a challenge. However, it was definitely worth learning.

Another skill I was able to expand and strengthen in Media Production 1 was interpersonal communication skill. Through the different interviews I had to conduct during this course, I was able to become a better active listener, I was able to ask and answer questions, and exchange information with my interviewee. This skill also helped me manage my emotions and understand body language. Interpersonal communication is a very important skill to have. This will help you become a confident person and be able to conduct interviews, public speak, and communicate well with others.

In conclusion, I made a great choice on changing majors to Communication Studies and taking Media Production 1 with Brother Dennis Bautista. I am extremely grateful for the knowledge I gained through this course. I have no doubt that the skills I gained are going to help me in my future and in my career.

  •  From an upper angel, Daniel continues to paint his ladder, tries not to stain the floor, and shows us his tattoo.
  •  From a closer view, Daniel shows us the beige color he decided to use on his ladder project.

Every Moment is A Fresh Beginning

After a long and well-deserved summer break and as the semester begins, I am looking forward to the next few months in St. Mary’s University. Maintaining a great attitude and striving for great outcomes. I am excited to meet new people and create new friends.

Some things I am looking forward to in this course is to adapt and get out of my comfort zone. I have no experience in Media Production, however I am open to learning new things. Furthermore, I am also excited to learn new skills in software. I believe Media Production is necessary to learn and master since its becoming drastically important in our world.

A challenge I believe I will face this semester will definitely be time. I do have a one-year-old son that requires my full attention at home; which keeps me from doing homework. The only times I have to do homework and catch up in assignments are during my class times, and that is a bit difficult. A strategy I will enforce to overcome this challenge will be to wake up extra early and come to campus before class starts. I will do whatever it takes to get a great outcome at the end of this semester.

Lastly, I am thankful for the opportunities and blessings I receive each day by God and by St. Mary’s University. I hope to grow mentally and spiritually. Also, I hope to gain the best knowledge out of every class this semester.
